The Department of Adult Education and Lifelong Learning

The HOD’s Welcome Address

I am pleased to welcome you to the Department of Adult Education and Lifelong Learning (ALL), Faculty of Education, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria.

I congratulate all the newly admitted students as well as the returning students. May I use this medium to introduce those who might be getting to know about ALL for the first time, to our highly reputable degree programmes.

ALL consists of Bachelor, Master and Doctoral Study Programmes, which are designed to produce graduates who have the ability to: analyze and undertake research on adult and non-formal education; design adult and non-formal education programmes based on adults’ needs; facilitate adult learning; and prepare professionals in adult education counselling and career advisory among others. Our students are educated and trained to be change agents in the global arena through the integration of multidisciplinary approaches to meet the manpower needs of the community services sector at local, national and international levels.

Our Bachelor programme was fully accredited by National University Commission (NUC). At present, the B.Ed. Adult Education degree programme is being reviewed by the Department to accommodate some key teaching subjects in response to the demands and needs of the Nigerian society in particular and global society in general. As regards postgraduate programmes, Senate of our Great University approved our new M.Ed., M.A.Ed., M.Phil., and Ph.D. programmes, which have specific fields of specializations such as community development, vocational/technical education and training, family life education, literacy, peace education, workplace learning, gender and women studies, and entrepreneurial education among others.

The Department has adequate facilities and resource centres for practical exercises. Both our central and faculty libraries (including e-library) provide free access to various reputable international books and journals from credible outlets such as Scopus, Thomas Reuters, DOAJ, ScieceDirect, and Google Scholar among others.
